Dr. Abolghasem Abasahl, M.D., General Surgeon.

Dr. Abasahl was managing the complex of the Imam Khomeini Hospital during the Iran/Iraq war and made great efforts to improve and expand its health care system. He also held the position of the Cancer Institute director for two terms and has played a significant role in the establishment and operation of the cancer research center and the radiotherapy department at the Cancer Institute. His efforts in equipping and setting up the radiotherapy department with advanced, modern, up-to-date Radiotherapy Equipment, when Iran was under sanctions and involved in the war against Iraq, will be long-remembered and highly appreciated. Dr. Abasahl was among the first volunteers who signed up to join health facilities and field hospitals at the beginning of the Iran-Iraq war and did not stop treating injured and wounded soldiers until the end of the war. Dr. Abasahl has also established a Palliative Medicine Center at the Cancer Institute and was involved directly with planning and developing the Palliative Medicine Residency and Fellowship program. He is one of the founders and an active member of several health associations and NGOs, especially in the field of oncology. The honorable Dr. Abasahl is a role model for many graduates and has guided countless students through the the rigors of general surgery and specialty training
